Aaaaaannnnd Action!

Today's class at Rosalie Hall was a lot of fun. Though a few babies were offsite with other family members, their moms decided to come anyway which was great. Throughout the class, I reminded the participants of the importance of actions while singing. Actions help to reinforce the lyrics of the song and encourage our babies to develop communication skills faster. After hearing this, our moms and staff really made an effort to learn every action to the songs we covered; this was great to see!

Body Language

This week was all about our bodies! We wiggled fingers and toes, clapped hands, slapped knees, and stomped feet, and even found our eyes, ears, mouth, and nose! We turned our fingers into tiny fish and our arms into huge crocodile jaws! Our group at Redwood is really active, so getting our whole bodies involved every class is a must!

Shaking our sillies out!

I had some new children attend the RSF class at Jessie's Centre today. They were older and so I decided to bring out body bells and have the caregivers strap the bells onto their wrists. We did lots of songs that involved clapping and shaking of their hands so that they could hear the effect of the bells ringing. They loved it - the cause and effect!

Gettin' in the groove

Our crew of small singers have participated in three sessions now, so they're really starting to catch on to some of the songs and actions, which is so great to see! They're pretty big fans of Hands Together, Hands Apart, and any song that gets us slapping our hands on the ground. They're even getting the hang of putting their instruments back in the bag without tears! Having the parachute right afterwards helps, of course!

Let's Dance!

We had a great time at Rosalie Hall this week teaching the babies how to dance with our Charlie Chaplin rhyme. The moms in the group were really enjoying manoeuvring their babies' legs in different formations while chanting along with the rhyme. It is always awesome to see babies and moms truly connecting through a musical or rhythmic activity. Looking forward to another great class next week!

Bouncing Bunnies!

This week's class at Robertson House was very well attended. The kids had an awesome time hopping around like bunnies during our rendition of Sleeping Bunnies. It was nice to see some parents with 1-year olds helping their kids to join in the bouncing fun. We also had one new family come to class which is always great. One of the new boys was immediately smiling as he walked into the room and heard the music. Great to see!

Hands!

This week we had a big crew of 1-2 year olds. The nice part about this is that all our music can be catered to that age group! We spent a lot of time singing with our hands today - Open 'Em, Shut 'Em; Hands Together, Hands Apart; Sticky Sticky Bubblegum, and more! The lovely thing about this age range is that as they get to know the songs and actions, you can see their participation increase each week as they become more familiar; I'm already looking forward to seeing these little ones get more musical with their hands over the coming weeks!
