Two Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Enthusiasm was great for this final class of the session. We started off seated and singing songs by request. We explored different farm animals on Old MacDonald's Farm, with the aid of the Centre's toys. And, despite a smaller than usual turnout, we rocked the PIA room with an extended movement set. The highlight was undoubtedly Five Little Monkeys. A great end to the session.

Teensy Weensy Fun!

Even though there was snow on the ground and the air was cool, this did not break our spirits at Birkdale today. With all returning families in class today, kids and grown-ups knew the words and sang loudly and enthusiastically. In particular, two of the older kids in the group have become close friends and were helping each other sing and follow along – when I did a high pitched voice for the Teensy Weensy Spider, they both did that along with me! It was very sweet and lovely to watch. These two, along with all the children, have really come such a long way.

If You're Happy Stomp Your Feet!

Our first class at Robertson House this session was a great success. There was a great turnout, as well as awesome participation from the grown-ups. It was so fun to see such eager participation during our rendition of If You're Happy and You Know It. The kids and parents had a great time poking their noses and stomping their feet. Awesome class!

Super Duper Seated Jam

Two of our participants today were first timers. We started off by singing some familiar tunes, and the highlight was definitely our jam session. We started earlier than usual, had some awesome drumming from a few different kids, and kept it going longer than usual. We jammed out What a Wonderful World, You are My Sunshine, and a Bob Marley medley.

Bananas!

Last week we sang All the Babies Like Bananas for the first time in quite a while, and because it was such a hit we sang it again this week! That got us all talking about how much babies really DO love bananas, so we sang Day Oh, just to get another song in there about the much-loved fruit. Besides everyone enjoying banana songs, our little ones were particularly into the parachute this week! One little guy can stand unsupported now and loved reaching up to try and grab the parachute as it came down towards him.

I Can't Fly... But I Can Sure Have Fun!

Finally blessed with a beautiful day, we had a great group of participants. We broke the ice with some of our first timers with classic favourites like Twinkle Twinkle and Old MacDonald before getting the group up and moving to I Can't Fly and The Hokey Pokey. We had a great jam session with Mama Don't Allow and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, before bringing out the parachute.

Spring Fever!

Though it's still cold outside, there was some spring fever in Jessie's Centre – we had a large group that was so full of life and excitement today! We sang lots of songs, and I introduced a couple that we hadn't sung in quite a while, our favourite being All the Babies Like Bananas. We also sang Some Like it Hot, and worked it up so we could sing it together in two parts – it sounded amazing!

All Smiles

The children, grown-ups, and I, were all smiles at Birkdale today at our first class of the Spring 2016 RSF session! All returning kids and grown-ups, we had a blast with some of the usual first-day classics like Roly Poly and I Wake Up My Hands. We also had lots of fun reviewing and practicing the signs for Mr. Sun, which many of the kids are now able to sign the entire way through! Parents, kids and staff were very excited to see me, and the feeling was mutual for me as well! Our instrument of the week, straight out of the jam bag, was the tambourine. Everyone's technique is really coming a long way. tambourine

March Break Fun!

March Break didn't keep some of our regular moms and babies away from the centre this week! In fact, we went on our own March Break trip, taking a firetruck (as we sang Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck), a bus (as we sang The Wheels on the Bus), flight (as we sang I'm a Little Baby, I Fly High) and a big hike with The Grand Old Duke of York!
