On Our Feet!

My favourite classes are the ones where I feel like the kids are leading the class with their energy, and I’m just facilitating. That was definitely the case for this class, and it was clear within the first five minutes that the kids were intent on standing and moving as much as possible, so I skipped through early warm-up songs and went straight into standing songs. The kids were already warmed up! I also find that the grownups tend to participate more when there’s more active movement in the room, so even for songs that are normally sung sitting, we sung them standing and moving. However, the kids and grownups were focused on the floor when I brought out the spoons for Instrument Of The Week. One of the staff members was quick to bring over a stack of spoons for the kids to play with, and they kept rhythm very well! I always love encouraging the kids to make music and noise with whatever is around them, and the spoons are one of my favourite ways to show that truly anything can be a percussion instrument. I imagine their breakfasts are about to get a bit more lively!
